Guild Breakfast - August 21, 2010

2nd Annual Opera in the Park Concert - September 11, 2010
3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. - Drum roll please! The Opera in the Park Concert is back. Yes, it is free and everyone is welcome!

Enjoy Virginia Opera's singers perform some of the most delightful ear candy in your Bermudas and flip flops at Town Point Park in Norfolk, Va at the 2nd Annual Opera in the Park Concert . Virginia Opera's very own Artistic Director Peter Mark and WHRO-FM's Program Director Dwight Davis are Masters of the Ceremony for the concert, which begins at 6:00 p.m.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to picnic on the lawn beginning at 3:00 p.m. Guests may purchase food, soft drinks and adult/alcoholic beverages throughout the evening or may bring their own picnic baskets filled with food and non-alcoholic beverages.

WHRO is very pleased to join forces with Virginia Opera on this year's "Opera in the Park." WHRO-FM broadcasts Virginia Opera's mainstage productions four times a year and airs operas each Saturday afternoon.

Of course, don't forget to tune in to WHRO-FM's 90.3. Virginia Opera's very own "Doc Opera" Dr. Glenn Winters of Operation Opera fame will be on WHRO-FM 90.3 to provide a sizzling preview of Verdi's Rigoletto.

Learn about Verdi and his musical masterpiece before Virginia Opera mesmerizes audiences with its classical production of Rigoletto.

Backstage Tour - October (Hampton Roads) - October 1, 2010
11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. - Join us for a backstage tour at the historic Edythe C. and Stanley L. Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Virginia. During the tour learn about the technical aspects of mounting a professional theatrical opera production. The tour includes such detail as the stage, set, fly system, lighting, wig shop, and costumes. As we explore the elements of live opera, we will also delve into the history of the Harrison Opera House and find out what is tradition or myth . Certain aspects of the tour may change pending on the time of year and the production calendar.

Richmond Annual Spring Gala 2011 (Central Virginia) - March 30, 2011

The Gala takes place on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at a yet-to-be-determined location. The event features a cocktail hour, a seated dinner, a live performance by outstanding opera singers, and an auction of fine and exciting items. The Gala is traditionally a sold-out event, and attracts Richmond’s finest; everyone from devoted opera lovers to those brand-new to the family of Virginia Opera!
