Downstairs at the Center in Partnership with the Virginia Opera Sung by world class young artists, An Evening of Opera and Broadway features soaring opera arias and your favorite Broadway melodies from the world’s greatest composers. Presented cabaret style in our elegant Taylor Ballroom, complementary coffee and sweets will be served, and a cash bar will be available.

Virginia Opera's Emerging Artists Give Free Concert

7:00 pm- - On Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 7:00pm Virginia Opera’s Emerging Artists will give a free concert open to the public. The concert will be held in the Fine
Arts Theatre inside of Saint Patrick Catholic School in Norfolk, Virginia located at 1000 Bolling Ave, Norfolk, VA 23508. No reservations are required to attend.
The program will include music by Samuel Barber, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Francis Poulenc and Joseph Marx. The concert will feature Emerging Artists, Kaileen Miller, soprano and Max
Wier, bass. Emerging Artists Apprentice Coach, John Arida, will accompany on piano.

An Evening of Glass: A benefit concert for Virginia Opera honoring composer Philip Glass

7:00pm- - This event will feature performances of Philip Glass’ music by principal artists in Virginia Opera’s Orphée. Baritone Matthew Worth, soprano Sara Jakubiak, tenor Jeffrey Lentz, soprano Heather Buck, and tenor Jonathan Blalock will sing and Virginia Opera Resident Conductor, Adam Turner will accompany on piano. Following these performances there will be a conversation with Maestro Glass about his music, a special performance by the composer, and a reception, giving attendees an opportunity to meet Mr. Glass and the other artists. This event is open to the public. Tickets are one hundred dollars a person and may be purchased by calling the Virginia Opera box office at 1.866.OPERA.VA (1.866.673.7282) or online at www.vaopera.org/philipglass.
This event will take place at La Maison Française located at the Embassy of France, 4101 Reservoir Rd. NW Washington, DC 20007.

The Mikado Backstage Tour

2:00pm- - Join us for a backstage tour at the historic Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Virginia. During the tour learn about the technical aspects of mounting a professional theatrical opera production. The tour includes such detail as the stage, set, fly system, lighting, wig shop, and costumes. As we explore the elements of live opera, we will also delve into the history of the Harrison Opera House and find out what is tradition or myth. Certain aspects of the tour may change pending on the time of year and the production calendar.
